CCNA Wireless Summary – Part 1

RF Signals and Modulation

Frequency

Number of times the signal makes one complete cycle in a second. Measured in Hertz (Cycle per second).

Radio Frequency = 3kHz to 300 GHz.

2.4 GHz band: From 2.400 to 2.4835 GHz. Has a total of 14 channels (1 to 14) spaced 0.005 GHz (or 5 MHz) apart.

5GHz Band:

  • 5.150 to 5.250 GHz
  • 5.250 to 5.350 GHz
  • 5.470 to 5.725 GHz
  • 5.725 to 5.825 GHz

Signal bandwidth – the actual frequency range needed for the transmitted signal.

Phase

Phase – measure of shift in time relative to the start of a cycle.Measured in degrees.

In Phase – two identical signals are produced at exactly the same time and have matching cycles.

Out of Phase – Signal that is delayed relative to the other.

Wavelength (λ)

Physical distance that a wave travels over one complete cycle.
